ARENOL-BOL: Swimming zones not signposted Photo credit: Jorge Van Hecke
CALPE town hall slapped a €6,500 fine on the company contracted to mark out swimming areas on the local beaches. The Beaches department complained that the concessionary neglected to put up notices identifying the swimming channels and failed to mark out the adapted swimming zone for the disabled. Later, when the marker buoys at the Arena Bol beach were wrenched loose during bad weather last July the department was unable to locate anyone from the company to alert them to the damage. According to the town hall, two of the errors on the part of the concessionary could be classed as “grave” and another as “minor” incurring a fine of €6,502. This would be deducted from the future payments that the town hall makes to the company, municipal sources said. This was the second time that a concessionary was fined this summer, after the beach-cleaning company failed to remove piles of seaweed washed up during the July storms. This was still there two days after the Beaches department contacted the concessionary, eventually earning the company a €6,000 sanction.
