FURIOUS Aldi shoppers have taken to social media to slam the supermarket after finding their prized turkey had gone off and was ‘rotten’ well before the sell by date.

As families around the UK were settling down to eat a much anticipated Christmas meal, others were taking to social media to express their indignation and disgust at finding their Christmas lunch ruined by ‘rancid’ turkey.

It is not clear from the tweets what stores the turkeys were purchased from or which specific turkey product it was. But it was certainly more than one.

The livid customers have criticised the budget store for spoiling Christmas and have expressed their indignation on Twitter, like Tony goss who wrote:

Aldi can you explain to me, why a chicken we purchased from your store @Aldi #thetford that clearly states Boxing Day as the use by date, is absolutely rancid? It’s turned green and the smell of ammonia has gone through the house.Merry Christmas!

A second tweeted:  My dad opened the turkey this morning and it’s completely gone off. #RuinedChristmas #Turkey #AldiUK

One customer offered very concerning feedback:

I have seen meat stacked up in Aldi nowhere near a fridge for over an hour. Put me off buying from them ever again. Sorry your dinner is ruined 🙁

As Euro Weekly News has confirmed, there were dozens of complaints of twitter. Another was from Louise Daley said: ‘Just opened our Aldi turkey to prepare it for the big day, only to find it has gone off!! @AldiUK I will be requesting a full refund.’

‘Returned to nearest store, didn’t even get so much as an apology, spent more than I needed to buy a crown #Rotten.’

And it seemed that Turkey wasn’t the only item giving Aldi customers a headache as Sara pointed out after a bottle of champagne purchased from the store “exploded” leaving  shattered glass in her Christmas lunch.

Not impressed @AldiUK given a bottle of your champagne for Christmas & while preparing Christmas dinner the bottle out of nowhere exploded! Glass everywhere and in the food, had to bin some of our dinner & then spend afternoon hoovering and mopping up not happy! #AldiUK

An Aldi spokesperson said: ‘We are sorry that, in a small number of instances, we did not meet our usual high-quality standards.

‘Customers can return any product that they are not satisfied with to their nearest store for a full refund, or alternatively contact our customer services department.’
