A CAR burst into flames after a suspected British drunk driver crashed into a wall while being chased by police in La Cala de Mijas.
At around 2.30am yesterday morning (Monday, January 27), Local Police officers spotted a vehicle travelling at ‘great speed’ along Avenida Mare Nostrum.
After turning on the blue lights and sirens, the driver reportedly responded by accelerating and a chase began.
It appears the car hit a wall and overturned in a street on the Botanico Jardin urbanisation.
The passenger was able to get out of the vehicle, but the driver needed the help of police officers who tried to quell the flames before calling Mijas firefighters.
They extinguished the blaze and, using a crane, cleared the area.
Nobody was hurt in the crash, but the 50-year-old British driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
According to reports, he was found to have a record for drink driving, and did not have a valid driving licence.
