THE La Cala de Mijas Lions welcomed eight members of APAFFER to their Charity Shop La Cala de Mijas in order to make a financial presentation.

APAFFER, (Asocoación de Pacientes con Fibromialgia Fatiga Crónica y otras Enfermedades Reumatticas), is an association for sufferers of Fibromyalgia, which is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues.

Researchers believe that the fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way the brain processes pain signals and most sufferers are women although until recently, many doctors refused to accept that it was a genuine illness.

Lions’ president, Anita Humphrey, presented a cheque for €1162.50 to the president of Apaffer, Mercedes Gouzalez Estevez, which will enable the purchase of a special machine which will provide relief from rheumatic pain.

Further details about the La Cala de Mijas Lions and details of future events can be found by visiting the Lions Charity Shop at 12 Calle Torremolinos, La Cala de Mijas which is open six days a week from 10am to 2pm.
