Cabo de Gata bus service used by over 8000 beachgoers, which is double the number of people who used the service in the same period last year.
The shuttle bus service provided by the Metropolitan Transport Consortium is proving to be extremely popular with beachgoers who want to access restricted beaches to the west of San Jose area in the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park in Spain’s Almeria.
In its first month alone the service saw over 8000 travellers use the shuttle service between July 6 and August 6.
The managing director of the Consortium, Luis Miguel Carmona, said that the shuttle service to the protected beaches has had “almost double the number of users of last 2020, when the service started on 16 July carried 2,689 users during the first fortnight of the month”.
According to Europa press: “The shuttles to the beaches will provide service until 5 September with one-hour frequencies from 10.30 am and with the last return from the beaches scheduled at 20.00 pm. They leave from the bus stop in the centre of San Jose and a total of five new stops have been set up in Campillo del Genoves located in the western area of San Jose, Playa de Genoveses, Playas del Barronal, Playa de Monsul and Cala Carbon.”
Carmona is said to be “very satisfied” with how the service is being used and that it provides “an alternative to private transport and at the same time a boost to sustainable mobility in a unique place like the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park, which we must all work together to preserve”.
