Almoradi is gearing up to celebrate International Dance Day with a joint performance, to take place in the Plaza de la Constitucion. The event, organised by the Almoradi Town Council’s Department of Sports, is now in its fourth edition and will bring together four local academies for an afternoon of celebration of the talent of Almoradi’s most passionate dancers.
A day to celebrate local talents and the art of dance
The academies participating in this edition of the event include Manoli García Dance School, Joseta Dance Academy, Dance Factory, and A-mambo. Starting on Sunday, April 26 at noon, the event will begin with the reading of this year’s international manifesto, written by choreographer Crystal Pite. Participants from each school will lend their voices to the text, upholding the art of dance as a form of love, resistance, and healing.
One of the main reflections of the manifesto is that all people are dancers because life moves us.
After the reading, the academies will showcase the styles they are taught on a daily basis, encompassing all forms of dance from classical ballet to contemporary and urban dance. At the end of the event, all academies will join together in a symbol of unity and celebration for the art of dance.
Organisers have encouraged residents and visitors in Almoradi to enjoy the performance free of charge. The show is a source of pride for the progress of the municipality’s dancers, and will transform the Plaza de la Constitucion into a hub of vibrant celebration and different artistic styles of dance.
What is International Dance Day?
International Dance Day is celebrated to promote dance as a universal art form, encourage participation and activity, and raise awareness about the immense cultural and educational importance of this art. Many other municipalities on the Costa Blanca South are also taking part in the celebrations, including the cultural hub of Torrevieja, which will also host a massive weekend of dance to ring in this important and fun day of observation.
