Olivia Valere, the historic Golden Mile hotspot that has hosted everyone from Mick Jagger and Prince to Paris Hilton and Sean Connery during its near-30-year reign, has closed its doors and the Mandala Group is moving in.
The hospitality giant has signed a 10-year lease on the famous venue and will reopen it as Bonbonniere Marbella. Marbella, first up in Spain and a second venture already planned for Madrid.
The project is in partnership with British entrepreneur and former boxer Joe Fournier. Fournier, who built and sold a chain of fitness gyms before moving into hospitality and nightlife, is now the prominent face of the Bonbonniere brand internationally.
The new club will bring headline DJs yet to be named, but think Claptone, Hot Since 82, Seth Troxler, Nic Fanciulli and Damian Lazarus, premium table service and a younger international crowd to a space that once defined old-school Marbella glamour.
The Bonbonniere brand brings an exciting new time for party-goers
Olivia Valere herself founded the club in 1997, famously inaugurating it with Naomi Campbell by her side. Over the years it became one of the coast’s most glamorous, but occasionally controversial, nightlife addresses. In 2020, police intervened after the venue breached COVID capacity limits during a concert, with reports claiming around 150 extra guests had been let in. The club later shut temporarily after staff tested positive for the virus, and in January 2021 police closed down an illegal after-hours party at the on-site LØV restaurant, where over 100 people were found and around 30 fines issued for curfew and COVID breaches.
The Valere family aren’t walking away from the site entirely, however. The adjoining restaurant and dinner-show concept, LØV, is under the Olivia Valere name for the 2026 season. In effect, the site is being split in two, Mandala Group takes over the nightclub, while the family retains the restaurant and entertainment side.
For new club goers the arrival of Bonbonniere is an exciting time, but for long-time Marbella regulars, it’s the end of a ‘ValEra’
