The town of Pedreguer has taken a major step toward revitalising one of its most historic spaces, officially approving the full redevelopment of the Centre Artístic Musical. Backed unanimously by the local council, the project represents an investment of over €1.2 million and aims to transform the building into a modern, multi-purpose cultural hub.
The decision follows months of revisions and public consultation, with final approval granted after incorporating feedback from stakeholders, including the musical society itself.
A new cultural heart for the town
The ambitious plan will merge two neighbouring buildings of historical significance, blending heritage preservation with contemporary design. One of these structures, dating back to 1905, is officially protected, ensuring that its architectural identity remains intact throughout the works.
Once completed, the site will serve multiple purposes. It will remain the headquarters of the local musical society, while also introducing new public spaces including rehearsal rooms, flexible-use halls, and areas for community events. A café space ,already part of the building, will be retained and adapted to host live performances, reinforcing the venue’s role as a social meeting point.
In addition, part of the complex will be converted into a tourist information point, expanding its function beyond culture and into visitor engagement.
Design that balances past and future
Architecturally, the project prioritises conservation while introducing modern functionality. The main building will undergo a full internal transformation, effectively rebuilding the interior while preserving its façade and restoring original features such as window openings.
A central connecting space will link the two buildings, featuring a double-height entrance designed to open the structure visually and physically to the surrounding streetscape. Plans also include the addition of an internal courtyard to improve natural light and create a more open, accessible environment.
Funding and wider impact
The redevelopment is supported through regional and provincial funding programmes, including initiatives aimed at improving public infrastructure and sustainable urban regeneration.
Beyond architecture, the project reflects a broader strategy to strengthen cultural life in Pedreguer. By creating a space that serves both residents and visitors, local authorities hope to boost community engagement while preserving an important part of the town’s identity.
With construction expected to follow this final approval phase, the transformation of the Centre Artístic Musical is set to become one of the area’s most significant cultural investments: blending tradition, creativity and community under one roof.
