This summer, Alicante’s iconic San Juan Beach will host something truly extraordinary: famed international circus Cirque du Soleil will bring its big top to the Costa Blanca capital for its Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities show, immersing audiences in what will be one of its most imaginative and technically complex shows to date.
An international show that will captivate audiences in Alicante
Taking part in the production are nearly 50 artists from more than 20 different countries, supported by their team of more than 100 backstage professionals. Now in the 35th edition of the show, Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities has already completed close to 3,500 performances and around seven million spectators have marvelled at the production across the globe.
The show involves a rich narrative set in the mid-19th century, during the peak of the Industrial Revolution. The story follows a scientist who becomes determined to prove the existence of an invisible world of imagination. This production, in true Cirque du Soleil fashion, is a merging of acrobatics, humour, storytelling, striking steampunk visuals, and a spectacle that will captivate audiences.
Alicante brings world-class entertainment to residents
Now, in a cultural and strategic milestone for the Costa Blanca, Alicante will be the next to host the spectacular showcase under Cirque du Soleil’s iconic big top, from July 16 to August 23. Other major Spanish hubs that will host the show include Sevilla, Bilbao, Malaga, Barcelona, and Madrid.
In addition to this show, a future return for Cirque du Soleil to the capital city of Alicante is already scheduled for 2028, highlighting a growing collaboration between the City Council and the organisers at the circus. With the collaboration, Alicante not only promises a summer of spectacle for the residents and visitors of the city, but also further establishes itself as a world-class destination for the very best of entertainment.
“It’s a show where something is always happening,” said Cirque du Soleil’s marketing manager, Itxaso Barrios. “There is so much detail that audiences often feel they need to look in every direction at once.”
More than 460 props will be integrated into the performance, and the big top will seat some 2,400 spectators per performance.
