Business owners who were affected by major street works across Velez-Malaga, Torre del Mar and Caleta de Velez stand to receive compensation through a new support package. The local council has opened applications for grants aimed at commerce, hospitality venues, self-employed traders and small enterprises impacted by urban improvement projects carried out between 2022 and 2024.
Direct support reaches up to €3,000 per premise
Grants will provide some financial relief to establishments that continued trading despite construction challenges in their immediate vicinity. Projects to upgrade streets and public spaces created temporary difficulties for retailers operating at street level. The council emphasises the necessity of these infrastructure works while acknowledging the real pressures faced by local traders.
The application window opens for eligible businesses
Interested parties can submit claims from May 20 until June 16 at the town hall following official publication in the provincial bulletin. Full details appear on the council website. Applicants must operate on open premises in one of the designated zones, prove they sustained activity throughout 2022, 2023 and 2024, hold valid registrations with social security and tax authorities, and maintain clear payment records with public bodies.
Seventeen zones qualify for assistance
Eligible locations include Calle Puerta de Antequera, Plaza de la Axarquia, Calle Nueva, Patrón Veneno, Federico Díaz, Doctor Fleming, Calle Real de Caleta de Velez, Plaza de la Constitución, Camino de Malaga and Calle Lope de Vega. Should demand exceed available funds, evaluations follow published criteria in the official terms.
Commitment to local economy
The initiative demonstrates ongoing backing for daily traders who form an essential part of the local economy. Business owners affected by recent public realm enhancements gain practical help to offset losses and maintain operations. Early applications receive priority processing where relevant.
Traders should review full guidelines promptly to prepare necessary documentation. Support measures recognise the resilience shown by establishments throughout periods of disruption from essential urban upgrades.
