Vera is preparing to host the third edition of the Vera Summer Showdown, one of the leading Cross Training competitions in the province of Almería. The popular sporting event will take place across the weekend of 23 and 24 May at Plaza de la Pérgola in Vera Playa, attracting athletes and spectators for two days of high-intensity fitness competition beside the Mediterranean coast.

Following the success of previous editions, the championship has become one of the most anticipated Cross Training events in the region. Organisers have confirmed that all available places have once again sold out, underlining the growing popularity of the competition among functional fitness enthusiasts from across Spain.

More than 500 athletes expected in Vera

More than 500 competitors are expected to travel to Vera for the event, with athletes arriving from provinces including Granada, Jaén, Murcia and Alicante. The tournament continues to strengthen Vera’s reputation as an important destination for sports tourism in southern Spain.

During the official presentation of the event, Vera’s Councillor for Sport, Antonio Soler, highlighted the council’s ongoing support for initiatives that combine tourism, health and outdoor sport. He described the Vera Summer Showdown as a major attraction for visitors and a positive boost for local businesses, restaurants and accommodation providers.

Cross Training competition tests strength and endurance

The Vera Summer Showdown focuses on Cross Training and functional fitness, featuring demanding exercises designed to test strength, endurance, skill and cardiovascular performance. Competitors will take part in challenges across several outdoor locations, including the beach and promenade, creating a dynamic setting that adds to the intensity of the competition.

This year’s edition also introduces a new Individual category. Athletes entering this division were required to complete a qualifying stage beforehand in order to secure a place at the live event, adding an extra level of competitiveness to the championship.

Organiser Pedro Torrente, founder of Nutribox Torrente, praised the support received from the local authority and said the aim is to deliver another unforgettable weekend of sport. With warm weather, coastal scenery and a lively atmosphere expected throughout the weekend, Vera looks set to become the centre of Cross Training in Almería once again.
