The San Pedro del Pinatar Town Council has completed the renovation of its mud bath platforms, as well as its access points to the local La Mota beach. The project has created new platforms through which the public can access these popular summertime areas, just in time for peak season, and represents an investment of nearly €200,000.

Residents and visitors can enjoy easier access to San Pedro del Pinatar’s famed mud baths

The project involved replacing and reinforcing the wooden platforms and access points to the bathing areas of the beach, as well as removing pre-existing barriers to make it easier for the public to reach these areas. The Town Council specifically chose materials that blend in with the landscape and natural environment, ensuring the platforms, apart from being functional, are not eyesores for visitors or residents of the municipality.

What are the mud baths? A major tourist attraction on the Costa Calida

The mud baths of San Pedro del Pinatar, which are free to use and located next to Molino de Quintín, are an outdoor mud therapy area and are one of the most popular tourist attractions for the municipality. The mud from Las Charcas de las Salinas is the result of centuries of sun exposure, combined with the highly saline waters of the Mar Menor. The result is a clay mud that, when applied to the skin, has great therapeutic value for all kinds of ailments: rheumatism, arthritis, and others.

After spending time in the mud baths, guests often complement it with a bath in the mineralised waters of the Mar Menor. In addition, there are thalassotherapy and spa centres where you can undergo specialised treatments.

The mud baths are highly popular due to their link to wellness, health, and relaxing. Additionally, San Pedro del Pinatar boasts one of the largest open-air natural spas in the Region of Murcia, as well as a wide range of mud therapy and thalassotherapy services.

This reformation of the area represents a more sustainable and accessible tourism model for the municipality that also better adapts attractions to the natural environment of the Regional Park.
