Residents of Dénia will be able to leave the car at home and travel across the town for free as the Costa Blanca municipality launches its first-ever urban public bus service.
The new municipal transport network officially begins operating on Monday, June 15, marking a major milestone for the town. Local authorities hope the service will improve mobility, connect neighbourhoods more effectively and provide a practical alternative to private vehicles.
To encourage residents to try the new system, all journeys will be completely free from June 15 until June 30 as part of a launch promotion.
Free travel during launch period
The introductory offer means passengers can use the service without charge for the first two weeks of operation.
The new network is expected to serve key areas of the town, helping residents access shops, services, healthcare facilities and leisure destinations more easily. Information about routes, timetables, stops and travel cards has been made available through the official transport website and printed guides distributed across Dénia.
The launch comes as many Spanish municipalities continue to invest in public transport solutions aimed at reducing congestion, improving accessibility and supporting more sustainable travel habits.
Special passes available for young people and seniors
Alongside the launch, Dénia Town Hall has opened applications for special transport passes for residents aged under 18 and over 65.
Applications can be made at the Social Centre on Calle Calderón, 4, from 9am until 1pm. The registration period runs until June 30.
While the service is free for everyone during the promotional period, the passes are expected to play an important role once the standard fare system comes into operation.
A new chapter for mobility in Dénia
For a town that has never before operated its own municipal bus network, the launch represents a significant step forward.
Officials hope the service will make everyday journeys easier for residents while helping to reduce traffic and parking pressures, particularly during the busy summer months when visitor numbers increase dramatically across the Marina Alta.
With free travel available until the end of June, residents have a chance to familiarise themselves with the new routes and see whether the service can become part of their daily routine.
