Marina Alta set for record €23.7m investment under new regional budget

Residents across the Marina Alta could see major improvements to schools, healthcare facilities and public infrastructure after the Valencian People’s Party (PPCV) said the region is set to receive a record investment of more than €23.7 million under the Generalitat’s 2026 budget.

If approved and delivered as planned, the funding would support a wide range of projects across the comarca, with education receiving the largest share of the investment. The announcement comes as local communities continue to press for better public services to keep pace with population growth and increasing demand.

According to PPCV deputy Noelia Císcar, the Marina Alta has not been overlooked in the regional spending plans. She said the budget represents the highest level of territorial investment the comarca has received and argued that it demonstrates the Generalitat’s commitment to addressing long-standing infrastructure needs.

Schools and healthcare receive biggest share

The largest allocation is earmarked for education, with almost €14 million expected to be invested in improving school infrastructure. Planned projects include works at primary schools in Dénia, Ondara, Gata de Gorgos, Pego, Calp, Xàbia, Orba, Parcent, Teulada, Vall de Gallinera and Els Poblets through the Edificant programme.

Healthcare is also due to benefit. The proposed budget includes funding for the construction of the new Dénia III health centre, the long-awaited Pedreguer health centre and improvements to primary care facilities across the Dénia health department. Investment is also planned for refurbishment work at La Pedrera Hospital in Dénia.

The spending package also includes funding for the reform and extension of Dénia’s judicial building, with PPCV representatives saying the focus is on delivering projects that residents have been waiting for rather than making promises that cannot be fulfilled.

Political debate continues

The proposed investment has already sparked political debate. Compromís has criticised the budget, arguing that the Marina Alta still requires significantly greater funding and has presented amendments worth more than €80 million. The party says extra investment is needed for transport, housing, healthcare, education and social services throughout the comarca.

The final level of investment will depend on the budget’s approval and the implementation of individual projects. However, if the plans move forward as proposed, they could bring noticeable improvements to everyday life for thousands of residents through upgraded schools, modern healthcare facilities and improved public infrastructure across the Marina Alta.
