A creative fundraising idea has helped a Benijofar petanca club raise hundreds of euros for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Fund. By turning a member’s woodworking hobby into a charitable project, the Rocky Raccoons Petanca Club has once again shown how community spirit and volunteer effort can make a real difference to veterans and their families in Spain.

Handmade craftsmanship supports a worthy cause

The Rocky Raccoons Petanca Club in Benijofar has once again proved that small acts of kindness can make a big difference, raising €420 for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Fund.

Based at Canada Marsa Park, the club transformed one member’s summer hobby into a successful fundraising project. During visits to the UK, he hand-makes wooden petanca ball holders in his own time and pays for all the materials himself, ensuring every euro from each sale goes directly to charity.

The latest presentation took place at Canada Marsa Park, where Branch Chairman Mark Benton accepted a cheque on behalf of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal Fund.

He thanked club members for their continued generosity and reminded supporters that donations raised in Spain remain in Spain, helping veterans, serving personnel and their families within the local community.

The handmade holders have become popular with players and visitors, combining practicality with a charitable purpose.

Club members say the project reflects the friendly atmosphere that has helped Rocky Raccoons become a popular meeting place. With the ball holders continuing to sell, anyone wishing to contribute can meet the club at Canada Marsa Park on Wednesday, Friday or Sunday mornings from September.

Every purchase will help strengthen the Legion’s work supporting those who have served, while demonstrating how one volunteer’s skills and generosity can inspire an entire community to give back in meaningful ways.
