Costa Calida prepares for record summer as holiday bookings surge past national average

The Costa Calida prepares for a record-breaking busy and touristic summer: the Region of Murcia is welcoming August with a positive forecast for holiday accommodation: 89.1 per cent of the tourist properties located on the Costa Calida have already been booked, placing this area of the region above the 85.5 per cent national average.

Record-breaking growth for local holiday rentals

This figure also represents the largest year-on-year increase compared to all other Spanish coastlines, according to data from Rentalia, a holiday rental platform owned by Idealista. The occupancy on the coast of the Region of Murcia has risen from 80.6 per cent in August 2025, representing an increase of 8.5 percentage points.

This data comes from an analysis carried out by Rentalia, focusing on availability calendars of accommodations that are less than 15 kilometres from a Spanish beach. On a national scale, the projected occupancy rate for August is up one percentage point compared to the same period last year.

Outperforming top Spanish coastal destinations

With these figures, the Region of Murcia’s coastline is one of the most booked areas in the whole of Spain. Ahead of it are only five areas in the country: Mallorca, with 99 per cent occupancy; Asturias, with 95.6 per cent; Menorca, with 94.6 per cent; Lanzarote, with 93.5 per cent; and the province of Alicante, with 92.2 per cent.

The Costa Calida, the Region of Murcia’s coastline, has also surpassed booking in popular destinations including Cantabria, with 88.3 per cent occupancy; Cadiz, with 87.5 per cent; the Costa del Sol, with 86.8 per cent; and Almeria, with 86.5 per cent.

Not only is the Region of Murcia one of the most booked and busy areas in Spain this August, but it is a clear leader of growth compared to the previous summer. Following it are Fuerteventura, which has increased from 77.7 per cent to 85.5 per cent, and Gran Canaria, which has increased from 75.9 per cent to 82.6 per cent.

It is noteworthy that the study also revealed that homes with air conditioning and swimming pools were also especially in demand, as a bid to escape the summer heat in Spain.

Travellers looking for last-minute stays in Spain may find greater availability on the Costa de la Luz in Huelva, Tenerife, Valencia, Tarragona, and Barcelona.
