In the heart of Coin’s urbanisation El Rodeo, Mumtaz Mahal is a rare find in authentic Indian cuisine in the Guadalhorce Valley, where genuine South Asian dining remains a special find.

For more than two decades the much-loved restaurant, guided by dedicated proprietor Sohail, has welcomed locals with bold, genuine flavours of India, warm hospitality and an unwavering commitment to tradition. Every dish is prepared with ingredients imported directly from India, delivering a true taste of the subcontinent that keeps diners returning.

The menu ranges from sizzling tandoori specialities to flavoursome plant-based dishes, guaranteeing something for every palate. Favourites that have stood the test of time include the spicy chicken pathia, a perfect balance of heat and tang, the tender lamb handi, rich with complex spices, and the fragrant Goan curry that evokes India’s coastal kitchens. A highlight for many is the generous naan basket, offering classic, garlic and stuffed varieties baked to soft, fluffy perfection.

Recent chef’s specials raise the level on the experience more. The aromatic Handi arrives in a creamy yet spicy sauce of onions, tomatoes, almonds, cashews and coconut milk. Original Chicken Korma is gently cooked with fried onions, yoghurt and a signature korma sauce, while Ginger Chicken combines onion, tomato, fresh ginger and fragrant curry. Pathia is still a crowd-pleaser (chicken €10.95, lamb €12.50), its sweet-and-spicy tamarind sauce delivering lively contrast. Mild Mango Chicken offers gentle sweetness, and the classic Goan Curry (chicken €10.95, lamb €12.50) is simmered in coconut milk.

Heartier options include Kemmamatter Aloo – minced meat with green peas, potato and spices – and Murg Mussalam, boneless chicken enriched with minced meat and tomatoes. Even the Stuffed Mushrooms, marinated in ginger-garlic paste, yoghurt and spices then filled with vegetables, make a memorable start.

Whether you settle into the welcoming dining room, order takeaway or arrange catering for a special occasion, Mumtaz Mahal consistently delivers exceptional quality and flavour. Unique touches such as the aromatic ginger chicken and spicy achari demonstrate the kitchen’s skill at balancing tradition with contemporary style.

You will find Mumtaz Mahal on the road between La Trocha and Aldi in Urbanisation El Rodeo, Coín. For reservations or takeaway call 626 977 224 or 952 455 599.

Lunch is served from 1.30 pm to 3.45 pm; dinner from 7 pm to 11.45 pm. For anyone craving authentic Indian cooking in the Coín area, this long-standing culinary gem continues to please both heart and palate.
