During a weekend in mid-August, Cabo de Palos will transform into a vibrant hub of music, active sports, and family-friendly activities with the return of its annual Cabo de Pop festival, an event that will unite locals and visitors in the shining area of the Costa Calida to celebrate the natural beauty, marine richness, and cultural heritage of one of Murcia’s most iconic towns.

What is Cabo de Pop?

This year’s edition marks the incredible ninth edition of Cabo de Pop, showcasing its popularity with both residents and visitors in the municipality and the anticipation for what is certain to be another exciting edition. It had its beginnings several years ago as a summer indie music festival and maritime event, backed by the Cartagena City Hall. Since then, it has grown into one of the most anticipated events of the summer for those in Cabo de Palos.

A fun coastal adventure meets live evening music

This year’s edition of Cabo de Pop, to be held on August 14 and 15, is an all-inclusive event that will span three main areas on the coast: the Lighthouse Esplanade, the Marina, and the surrounding beaches. The festival will merge daytime nautical adventures with vibrant cultural performances at sunset, for an all-day experience guests can enjoy.

Explore the marine reserve through water-based activities and sports

Water-based activities form a major part of the festival experience. During the day, attendees will be able to take a dip in the cool Mediterranean (and escape the summer heat) on the idyllic beaches of the town. These locations are privileged, located near the renowned Cabo de Palos and Hormigas Islands Marine Reserve.

Attendees will be able to reserve guided sessions across several water-related activities, including scuba diving and snorkelling. Others can choose to join guided coastal routes by paddle surf or kayak to take in scenic views of the dramatic rocky headland, while sailing trips and historical guided tours offer additional ways to engage with the region’s rich maritime heritage.

Live concerts, mouth-watering food trucks, and lovely craft markets

During the evening, the festival will transition into a vibrant, lively evening celebration centred around Cabo de Palos’ landmark lighthouse. The esplanade will host two consecutive nights of live concerts featuring a diverse lineup of musical artists, turning the cliffside venue into a memorable open-air stage.

In addition to these musical performances, visitors can stroll through a bustling outdoor market showcasing local crafts, sustainable fashion, and handmade artisan goods. A selection of food trucks will provide mouth-watering regional tapas alongside international options, allowing festivalgoers to dine under the stars with sweeping panoramic views of the sea. 

In addition to all these events, the Cartagena City Hall is facilitating a free shuttle bus during the days of the festival so attendees can arrive faster and with more ease while the event is running.
