The coastal hamlet of El Mojon, located on the border between San Pedro del Pinatar and Pilar de la Horadada, recently celebrated the feast of its patron saint, San Roque. The annual gathering, which took place on Sunday, August 16, brought together residents and visitors from both the Region of Murcia and the province of Alicante in a vibrant display of tradition, devotion, and community camaraderie.

Traditional procession leads to open-air service

The day’s main religious events began with the traditional procession of the image of San Roque. Local residents carried the saint on their shoulders through the town’s streets, escorted by dozens of onlookers who joined the procession until it reached Parque Calisto. Following the parade, an open-air mass was held on the park’s central esplanade, drawing a large congregation of families, friends, and neighbours.

A joint celebration uniting neighbouring regions

One of the main draws of the event was the merging of both communities from San Pedro del Pinatar and Pilar de la Horadada. It was a wonderful opportunity for neighbours and visitors to mingle with people from nearby towns, socialise, and share in community spirit.

Action-packed week offers something for all ages: Leisure, sports, and a foam party

The feast day served as the grand finale to an extensive multi-day festival programme. Throughout the week, El Mojon hosted a diverse selection of leisure and sporting events, including a football tournament, a bustling maritime market, ping-pong championships, dance performances, and an open-air cinema. Younger attendees enjoyed children’s activities, water games, interactive workshops, and a foam party to combat the August heat.

Live music and performances close the summer festival

Music also played a central role in the summer celebrations. The lineup featured a tribute performance of Vivo por Ella, a lively Ibiza-themed party, and an evening of authentic flamenco with live sets from Al Relente and Di Flamenco Fusión. Following the traditional ceremonies, the festivities concluded in style with a closing night concert by Capitán Nemo, drawing the curtain on another successful summer festival that successfully blended age-old customs with modern seaside entertainment.
