Buying one extra piece of school equipment in your August shop could make a huge difference to a child heading into the new school year.
Solidarity drive launches at Miramar Fuengirola
Community organisers at Miramar Shopping Centre, have joined hands with the Red Cross to deliver the reCOLEcta charity initiative. Running from August 21 to 30 2026, the ten-day collection campaign gives shoppers a direct way to support children facing economic hardship in Fuengirola.
Back-to-school season is always an expensive time, bringing heavy financial pressure for hundreds of local families preparing for the upcoming academic term. Rising living costs mean essential classroom items can be tricky for vulnerable households across the area.
Volunteers will be on hand at a special collection desk on the ground floor of the commercial complex, positioned directly opposite Carrefour. Generous visitors can drop off brand-new educational items every day between 10am and 10pm.
Accepted contributions include:
Sturdy school backpacks and matching pencil cases
Writing notebooks, graph pads, and exercise books
Pencils, ballpoint pens, highlighters, and felt-tip marker sets
Document folders, rulers, erasers, and essential stationery supplies
Direct financial assistance backs the public collection drive. Miramar Shopping Centre management confirmed a dedicated direct donation of €500 to purchase additional stationery sets, maximizing the number of young learners reached before classrooms reopen.
Annual regional drives expected to follow
Broader supermarket drives typically run across Malaga province every year, organised by Carrefour and the Red Cross. Exact dates for 2026 collections in Mijas, Marbella, and Malaga city have yet to be announced, but previous years saw strong support from shoppers across neighbouring towns.
Red Cross volunteers will gather every single item and hand them directly to parents who are struggling to make ends meet. Knowing that their children will walk into class on day one with a full pencil case and a backpack gives parents and carers huge relief during a tough time of year.
Tossing a pack of pens or an exercise book into your trolley takes seconds, but it means everything to a young student starting fresh this September. Small acts of kindness like this make sure no child in our community feels left out when the school bell rings. Head to Miramar and help out if you can.
