When the Mediterranean became the ultimate seat for the eclipse

While people across Mallorca gathered to watch the solar eclipse, our guests on board SV Iron Monkey had the chance to experience it from the water during a private evening charter in the Bay of Palma.
We left Palma in the afternoon and headed out into the Mediterranean, away from the crowds and with a clear view towards the western horizon. With drinks on deck and plenty of space to relax, we waited for the eclipse to begin.
As the Moon gradually moved across the Sun, the light over Mallorca started to change. The temperature dropped, the colours became noticeably different and, for a few minutes around the peak of the eclipse, the whole atmosphere on the water felt quite unusual.
It was impressive to watch, but what made the evening particularly enjoyable was simply the setting: being out at sea with friends, Mallorca behind us and an uninterrupted horizon ahead.
For SV Iron Monkey, charters like this are a good example of what we enjoy doing most.
Of course, most days don’t involve a solar eclipse. But a day aboard Iron Monkey can be whatever our guests want it to be – sailing along the Mallorcan coast, swimming in a quiet bay, enjoying lunch and a few drinks on deck, trying some of the watersports equipment, or heading out for a sunset cruise.
We also enjoy putting together private charters for special occasions and unusual events. Sometimes the best days on the water are the ones that are slightly different from the usual itinerary.
This particular evening will certainly be difficult to repeat.
And when someone eventually asks our guests where they watched the 2026 eclipse, they have a pretty good answer:
“From the Mediterranean, aboard SV Iron Monkey.”
