A public bus driver is under investigation by the Guardia Civil after she was filmed driving recklessly on the N-351, on the Gibraltar border. The driver is alleged to have swerved, overtaken other vehicles without regard for road safety regulations, and even driven against the flow of traffic.
Caught on camera near the border: Bus driver alleged to have driven recklessly
The investigation was announced through a press release by the Guardia Civil, explaining that the incident took place on the afternoon of Sunday, August 16 in La Línea de la Concepción. It was brought to the attention of authorities when another person on the road recorded videos of the bus swerving and overtaking vehicles on the road, prompting agents of the traffic subsector of the Guardia Civil in Cadiz to open an investigation into the crime of reckless driving.
Through an official post on X, the Guardia Civil stated that the driver was showing “zig-zag manoeuvres, passing over continuous solid lines, and swerving into oncoming traffic, putting passengers and other drivers at risk.”

Potential penalties and legal consequences: Up to 2 years in prison and licence revoked for up to six years
If charged, the driver could face between six months and two years in prison, and have her driver’s licence revoked for more than one and up to six years. This would prevent the driver from driving any kind of motor vehicle or moped during this time.
Backlash and a mixed public reaction online
However, the Guardia Civil’s post has received a mixed reaction from X users. Some claim that, in the video, the vehicle in front of the bus is intentionally braking and blocking the bus, explaining the swerving movements.
“I hope you are also investigating the car in front, which clearly gets in front on purpose and is braking on them,” one X user stated.
“If you had any dignity, you’d say you were looking for that driver,” stated another user. “The bus has to stick to a schedule because otherwise they get fined…”
A third user asserted that the bus driver should not be defended for overtaking across the solid line on an urban road, but that the vehicle in front, a foreign car, should also be investigated for intentionally blocking the bus.
Reporting reckless road behavior: The Guardia Civil’s AlertCops mobile application
The Guardia Civil has reminded the public that if they spot any reckless driving or other dangers on public roads, they can use the AlertCops mobile application to send alerts to the State Security Forces and Corps.
