Food, nature and history take centre stage in Orihuela’s autumn tourism programme

Orihuela is adding new experiences to its autumn tourism programme, with food, nature, history and local traditions taking centre stage during September and October.

The programme includes everything from traditional food tastings and wine tourism to nature walks and events celebrating poet Miguel Hernandez, giving residents and visitors a varied selection of activities across the municipality.

September events

September begins with the Bonanza Dinner on Friday, September 4, including a tasting for €5, before celebrations for the Virgen de Monserrate feature a visit to the Sanctuary on September 5.

A new Baroque Pastry route on Thursday, September 10 will explore Orihuela’s culinary traditions, complete with a tasting of traditional sweets.

Miguel Hernandez takes the spotlight on September 12 with a visit to his house museum and the sensory “Smell Me” workshop.

Another new route on September 19 will explore the Vega Baja landscape from the Sierra de Hurchillo, adding a nature-focused experience to the month’s programme.

World Tourism Day on September 27 brings a special tour of some of Orihuela’s best-known sites followed by a tasting, combining local history and gastronomy.

October activities

October includes nature and wine tourism alongside events celebrating Miguel Hernandez and Orihuela’s Easter heritage.

Highlights begin with a visit to La Pedrera reservoir and the Vega Baja wetlands on October 3, offering participants an opportunity to discover more about the area’s natural environment.

A wine tasting follows on October 10, while Orihuela Costa takes centre stage on October 17 with a walk along the Las Colinas ecological trail.

The programme continues later in the month with activities connected to Orihuela’s cultural heritage.

A special Miguel Hernandez route takes place on October 30, providing another opportunity to explore the life and legacy of one of the city’s most famous figures.

Weekly bookings

Places for the autumn tourism activities are limited, with events released for booking weekly through Orihuela Tourism.

The September and October programme brings together several different sides of the municipality, ranging from the historic centre and its culinary traditions to the landscapes of the Vega Baja and Orihuela Costa.
