AMFA summer programme ends with inclusive family day at Aquopolis Torrevieja

AMFA’s summer programme for people with disabilities and their families came to a close in Torrevieja on Saturday, August 29, with 120 people attending the final Inclusive Blue Leisure Day at Aquopolis.

The final event brought together 47 people with disabilities, 54 relatives and companions and 19 volunteers for a day at the water park.

Inclusive summer programme has supported families for 14 years

AMFA, the Association for People with Functional Diversity of Torrevieja and the surrounding area, has organised the initiative with Aquopolis for the past 14 years.

This summer’s programme was held over four Saturdays between June and August, giving participants and their families access to the water park with additional practical support.

Reduced admission was available for people with disabilities and their companions, helping families take part in the organised leisure days together.

AMFA volunteers were also on hand throughout the activities to provide assistance where required and help participants enjoy the facilities.

Adapted transport helps make leisure activities more accessible

Adapted transport could also be requested by people with reduced mobility who did not have suitable transport to reach the events.

The programme aims to make leisure activities more accessible while also providing support for relatives and carers attending with participants.

By combining reduced admission, volunteer assistance and adapted transport where required, the initiative is designed to remove some of the practical difficulties that can make leisure activities harder to access for people with disabilities and their families.

The four summer sessions provided opportunities for participants to enjoy Aquopolis while knowing additional assistance was available during their visit.

Volunteers recognised as final summer session comes to a close

Saturday’s final session also recognised the volunteers and others who have helped the programme continue over the years.

A total of 19 volunteers attended the final Inclusive Blue Leisure Day, alongside the 47 people with disabilities and 54 relatives and companions.

Their involvement has been an important part of the initiative, providing practical support during activities and helping families participate in the summer programme.

AMFA works throughout Torrevieja and the surrounding area to support people with disabilities and their families.

With the August 29 event bringing this year’s four summer sessions to an end, the programme has now completed another season of accessible leisure activities after 14 years of collaboration between AMFA and Aquopolis.
