Sur Pipes Band returns inviting locals for a dance around the Claymore

Scottish country dancing is returning to Benalmadena this weekend, with Sur Pipes Band inviting locals and expats to step onto the dance floor regardless of their experience.

Classes restart on Sunday, September 13, at the Innova building in Arroyo de la Miel, next to La Paloma Park, beginning at 1pm.

Sur Pipes says no previous dancing experience or partner is needed, making the classes an accessible way for people to discover traditional Scottish country dancing. Anyone interested is encouraged to come along, meet the group and enjoy an afternoon of Scottish music and dancing.

The announcement was made by Sur Pipes Malaga on social media, with the organisation describing the sessions as an opportunity to have fun while learning traditional Scottish dances. Scottish country dancing is generally performed socially, with dancers following a sequence of steps and formations rather than simply dancing with one fixed partner.

Sur Pipes brings Scottish culture to Malaga

Sur Pipes Band is a Malaga-based Scottish pipe band founded by Leslie Thomson in 2018. Its members include people from several different nationalities, reflecting the international nature of life on the Costa del Sol.

According to the group’s Facebook page, its activities bring together Scottish music, bagpipes, drums and dancing for people interested in the country’s traditions.
