Night spinning returns to Fuengirola marina this Friday for Alzheimer’s families

Pedal power meets a great cause on Friday, September 18, when Fuengirola stages its fourth night-time outdoor spinning session. Classes start at 7pm in the central square of the marina, with around 100 exercise bikes lined up for anyone who fancies an hour of aerobic cycling under the lights and not going anywhere. Every euro from the €10 entry fee goes straight to AFA Fuengirola-Mijas, the local association supporting people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias and the relatives who look after them.

The council has urged all residents to sign up, saying a night of sport in a spectacular spot also backs AFA’s day-to-day work. Instructors from Coliseo gym will run the sessions and supply the exercise bikes. Sign up at Coliseo on Calle Antonio Machado or at the council’s sports office before places go.

How the night works

This year is inside the wider Fuengirola en Forma programme, which packs September with open-air fitness. Earlier versions were held on the Espigon de la T pier; this year the marina square takes over. Expect music, instructors calling the rhythm and a lively crowd rather than a race. Anyone who would rather not ride can still chip in to this marvelous cause.

Where the cash goes

AFA, founded in 2003, runs day centres, memory workshops, physiotherapy and family support across Fuengirola and Mijas. Funds from events like this help keep those services going and ease pressure on waiting lists. President Paqui Lebron has thanked the town hall for choosing September, the month of World Alzheimer’s Day.

Extra ways to chip in

A “fila cero” lets people donate without getting on a bike. AFA will also set up collection tables at the marina so spectators can give on the night and hear what the association does. For those of you who were unable to get tickets for the Simply Thriving Night this year, this is a healthy way to give as well.
