Alicante Mobility Week brings cycling events and new scooter rules

The programme includes a new family cycling event, the return of the popular Ciclovia Litoral and information sessions ahead of changes to the city’s electric scooter regulations on October 1.

Family cycling event follows Alicante coastline

A new event, A la Almadraba en bici, takes place on Saturday, September 19, offering residents the opportunity to enjoy a six-kilometre ride through the city.

The route begins at 11:00 AM from Paseo de la Policia Nacional, close to Avenida de Elche, before following Alicante’s northern coastline.

Cyclists and users of personal mobility vehicles can participate, accompanied by members of the Alicante Local Police’s cycling unit.

The activity forms part of the wider European Mobility Week programme, which aims to encourage alternatives to private car journeys and promote different ways of travelling around Alicante.

Ciclovia Litoral returns on Sunday

On Sunday, September 20, the popular Ciclovia Litoral will return to the Alicante seafront.

Traffic will be removed from the route between Puerta del Mar and part of Avenida de Villajoyosa, allowing bicycles and personal mobility vehicles to use the road freely.

Activities will include an electric scooter information stand, a skills circuit and a children’s road-safety park.

Anyone who registers at the information stand will receive a gift and also be entered into a draw for three bicycles.

The traffic-free event gives families and other participants an opportunity to enjoy part of Alicante’s seafront without the usual presence of cars.

New electric scooter rules start in October

Information stands will operate on September 21 and 22 to explain Alicante’s new regulations covering electric scooters.

The rules come into effect on October 1 and include a minimum riding age of 15. Riders will also be required to wear approved helmets.

The information sessions are intended to help residents understand the changes before they become compulsory.

European Mobility Week also includes a mobile photography competition running until September 22, with prizes including Mobilis public transport cards providing 30 journeys.
