San Miguel de Salinas is offering residents a free service to dispose of garden prunings, with collected material shredded for recycling rather than treated as ordinary waste.

The next collection takes place on Tuesday, September 22 at the San Miguel de Salinas industrial estate, giving local residents a convenient way to dispose of branches and other suitable green waste.

The service will operate from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at the end of Calle Espliego in the San Miguel de Salinas industrial estate.

It is available only to people registered as residents of the municipality.

Residents can bring most types of branches and other material produced when pruning gardens, shrubs and trees. The scheme provides an alternative for households dealing with larger quantities of garden waste that may be difficult to dispose of through normal arrangements.

Collected material will be shredded so it can be recycled and given a second use rather than being treated as ordinary waste.

Palm leaves and larger wood cannot be accepted

There are several restrictions residents need to be aware of before bringing their garden cuttings to the collection point.

Palm trees and palm leaves cannot be accepted by the service. Pieces of wood measuring more than 10 centimetres across are also excluded because they are not suitable for the shredding machinery being used.

Garden waste should also be brought loose. Containers used to transport the cuttings cannot be put through the shredder and should therefore be removed before the material is handed over.

The restrictions are intended to ensure that only suitable green waste enters the shredding process.

Scheme gives garden waste a second use

The initiative is intended to help residents dispose of garden cuttings responsibly while keeping green waste away from inappropriate collection points.

By shredding suitable branches and pruning material, the waste can be recycled rather than simply discarded.

The service is being organised by San Miguel de Salinas Town Hall’s Agriculture Department with support from Alicante Provincial Council.

Anyone planning to cut back trees, shrubs or other garden plants can take suitable pruning waste to the industrial estate at the end of Calle Espliego between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM on Tuesday, September 22.

The collection is free for registered San Miguel de Salinas residents.
