Tasty Torre: Torrevieja International Tapas Day serves up €3.50 food trail

Torrevieja will serve up an international food trail on Saturday, September 26, when 11 bars and restaurants take part in the 10th International Tapas Day.

Each participating venue will offer a tapa and drink for €3.50, giving residents and visitors an affordable opportunity to sample different dishes while travelling between restaurants around Torrevieja, La Mata and further afield.

Tuna takes centre stage on this year’s menus

Tuna features prominently among the dishes created for the event, although the menus also include seafood, rice, meat, cheese and artichokes.

Some of the more unusual creations include crispy pig’s ear toast topped with tuna tartare, avocado mousse and ponzu, alongside raw cuttlefish brioche.

Other venues will serve tuna tequenos and fresh tuna cannelloni with avocado, lime and sesame.

The variety of dishes means participants can build their own route between venues, stopping to try different tapas throughout the day.

At €3.50 for a tapa and drink, the event is also designed to encourage diners to visit several establishments rather than remaining in a single restaurant.

Seafood, rice and meat offer alternatives

There will be plenty of options for anyone wanting a break from tuna.

Alternative dishes include arroz a banda, grouper fideua, roasted chicken croquettes and clams in marinara sauce.

Artichokes served with romesco sauce are among the other choices available during the food trail.

Participating establishments include Bianco Sea Club, La Cantina Food & Drinks, Jax Torrevieja, The Food & Coffee Theater, Crescent Moon Gastrobar, HB Torrevieja, Guest Restaurant Gastrobar and Martini’s Restaurant.

The route also extends into La Mata, increasing the number of areas visitors can explore during the event.

Tapas trail reaches beyond Torrevieja

The International Tapas Day celebrations are not confined to central Torrevieja, with establishments further afield also joining the event.

Botanical Restaurant in Ciudad Quesada is among those taking part in this year’s international celebration.

Prize draws will also be connected with the event, providing an additional incentive for diners to explore the participating venues and try more of the specially prepared dishes.
