Drivers in Dénia are set to benefit from a series of changes to the town’s Blue Zone parking system, with a new contract aimed at making it easier to pay for parking and find available spaces.

The Ajuntament de Dénia is putting a new contract out to tender covering the management and improvement of regulated parking in the town. The plans include new digital payment options, updated parking technology and a more streamlined system for dealing with parking fines.

Mobile payments and Bizum

One of the most noticeable changes will be the introduction of more ways to pay for Blue Zone parking.

The successful company will be required to provide one or more mobile applications allowing drivers to pay for their parking directly from their phones, without additional commissions or surcharges.

Payments through Bizum will also be available, giving motorists another convenient alternative to traditional parking meters.

Dénia currently has 13 parking meters serving the town’s regulated parking areas. The machines accept coins and contactless card payments, while the new contract is designed to expand the digital options available to drivers.

For residents and visitors, the changes should mean less need to search for coins or walk to a parking meter when they arrive.

New technology to help drivers find spaces

The plans also include improvements to the technology used to show where parking spaces are available.

New information panels will provide drivers with details about available spaces, building on Dénia’s existing smart parking system.

The town introduced technology providing real-time information about parking occupancy as part of efforts to make it easier for motorists to find spaces in busy areas.

The aim is to reduce the amount of time drivers spend circling streets looking for somewhere to park, while also helping to cut unnecessary traffic.

This could be particularly useful during busy periods when demand for parking in central Dénia increases.

No planned increase to Blue Zone prices

Despite the planned technological improvements, the new contract does not introduce a rise in the current Blue Zone parking rates.

Dénia’s regulated parking remains relatively inexpensive, with the existing rate set at one cent per minute.

This means drivers currently pay around 60 cents for one hour of parking, while two hours costs approximately €1.20.

The new tender maintains the existing tariff structure rather than introducing higher charges.

Parking fines to go digital

The management of parking offences will also be modernised.

The new system will include a fully digital process for monitoring and processing parking complaints and fines, replacing more traditional administrative procedures.

The Blue Zone areas covered by the contract include several central streets, including La Mar, Magallanes, Cándida Carbonell, Calderón and Colón.

It also covers the public car park between Paseo del Saladar and Patricio Ferrándiz, commonly known as the Hotel Costa Blanca car park.

The new contract represents another step towards modernising parking in Dénia, with the focus on making the system easier to use while maintaining the current Blue Zone pricing for motorists.
