Aguilas turned into the setting for a zombie apocalypse on Saturday, October 10, as Viral Zombie returned for its ninth edition, challenging participants to survive a night of missions, puzzles and encounters with the undead across the town’s streets.
Participants face a zombie apocalypse across town streets
Running from 11:00pm until 4:00am, the event invited participants to step into a fictional world where teamwork, quick thinking and problem-solving were essential to staying alive. Unlike a traditional escape room, Viral Zombie uses the streets and public spaces of Aguilas as its playing field. Participants must navigate the town while completing missions, solving riddles and interacting with characters who form part of the storyline.
Missions, puzzles and undead encounters test survival skills
Military personnel also feature in the experience, assigning tasks and guiding players through different challenges. However, the biggest threat comes from the zombies themselves, who can eliminate participants or infect them during encounters, potentially allowing them to switch sides and join the undead.
The format combines role-playing, physical activity and problem-solving, creating an immersive experience in which players become part of the action rather than simply watching from the sidelines.
Viral Zombie brings alternative entertainment to autumn nights in Aguilas
Viral Zombie has become part of Aguilas’ October youth activities, offering an alternative to conventional nightlife through an experience centred on suspense, teamwork and imagination. Turning familiar streets into a fictional survival scenario, the event gives participants a chance to explore the town in an unusual way while working together to overcome challenges.
Where to enjoy Viral Zombie, the thrilling precursor to Halloween
The event is not only limited to Aguilas, however. Viral Zombie is an annual event in various municipalities, including Alhama de Murcia, Vera, Mazarron, and Zaradona. It has been a creative, fun, and heart-pounding way to welcome autumn and get the energy going for Halloween.
This year’s edition of Viral Zombie was a booming success, and participants are already looking forward not only to the next edition, but to the rest of the ‘spooky season’.
