ARCH’s popular Autumn Fest is back on, this time on Sunday 25 October 2026 from 10am to 4pm at the rescue centre in Alhaurin el Grande.
The original date of 4 October had to be called off at short notice after forecasts pointed to heavy rain, a familiar challenge for outdoor events on the Costa del Sol in autumn.
The rescue centre has now confirmed the new date and are looking forward to welcoming families, dog owners and animal lovers for a full day of fundraising fun.
As with previous years, entry is free. Visitors can meet the rescued horses, ponies and donkeys, drop a donation in the bucket, enjoy food and drinks (including paella), browse artisan stalls, take part in the mega raffle, and support the centre’s ongoing work. Entertainment will include a Fun Dog Show with classes such as Best Fancy Dress and Temptation Alley, plus music and other activities. Proper footwear is recommended for anyone planning to go near the paddocks.
The day raises essential funds for feed, bedding and veterinary care through the winter months. ARCH, the Andalusian Rescue Centre for Horses, continues to take in neglected, abandoned and abused equines brought in by SEPRONA and local police, providing rehabilitation before seeking new homes wherever possible.
Recent arrivals and everyday care
Behind the scenes, the work never stops. Three new arrivals have already received important early care. Vet Rocío came out to vaccinate all three, with volunteer Aly on hand to keep everyone calm. Good veterinary treatment is one of the biggest ongoing costs of running a rescue and one of the most important; every new equine needs checking, treating and bringing up to date with the care they require. The team is still getting to know these three and working out exactly what each of them needs.
Support also comes from further afield. Janine and Inne travelled from Belgium for a week of volunteering at the centre. They got stuck into the daily routines, met the residents and, by all accounts, had the best time. ARCH’s volunteers, whether local or visiting, remain central to keeping the sanctuary running.
