Local businesses were celebrated in Javea as the town hosted its fourth annual Local Commerce Gala, recognising the people and enterprises helping to sustain the town’s economy and community. The event took place on Friday, October 23, at the Sala Polivalent in Portal del Clot, bringing together representatives of the local business community for an evening dedicated to achievement, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Local businesses recognised at annual gala

Organised by the Javea Town Council’s Economic Development Department, the gala recognised four businesses across different categories, alongside an honorary award for a well-known local trader. Òptica Picó received the award for business longevity, acknowledging more than four decades of serving the community. The optician, located in the town’s historic centre, has maintained famously close relationships with its clients.

Awards celebrate longevity, innovation and sustainability

The digitalisation and new technologies award went to Mundo Marino, a nautical company that has embraced digital tools while continuing to develop its business. The company began operating in Javea around 30 years ago. Meanwhile, Coster d’en Sala was recognised for its commitment to sustainability. The idyllic vineyard, located between Javea and Benitachell, restores the area’s agricultural landscape and protects its natural surroundings.

The award for a new business went to Barro Fiber Art, a textile art, decoration and crafts studio in Javea’s historic centre. The recognition highlighted the contribution of new creative enterprises to the town’s commercial landscape.

Long careers take centre stage, along with a hilarious comedy routine

A fifth honour was awarded to José Ortuño, from the Ortuño Devesa family, in recognition of his long career in local commerce and dedication to serving residents. The ceremony also featured a comedy performance by Eva Díez and Davinia Lekeux, who explored the differences between online shopping and traditional neighbourhood businesses. According to local news outlet Xàbia al Día, the gala also introduced a new trophy, with handmade stoneware sculptures created by local artisan De Pepa Ceràmica.

Local Commerce Day, a standout date in the Community of Valencia

The event coincided with preparations for the Valencian Community’s Local Commerce Day, celebrated annually on October 25. The weekend not only celebrated long-standing local businesses, but also shone a light on the importance of community connections, trustworthy brands and clients, and how tightly knit Javea’s commerce market truly is.
