Residents and visitors joined forces in Javea on Sunday, October 25, for the sixth edition of the town’s March Against Cancer, supporting research into the disease and showing solidarity with patients and their families. Organised by the local branch of the Spanish Association Against Cancer, or AECC, the charity walk brought the community together for a non-competitive event aimed at raising funds and increasing awareness of a disease that affects thousands of families every year.

Participants gathered at Avenida Jaime I in Duanes de la Mar, where the walk began at 10:00am. The route covered approximately 5.5 kilometres, continuing towards the end of the Paseo del Tenista David Ferrer before returning to the starting point. The event welcomed people of different ages and fitness levels, letting interested attendees take part with the more accessible version of the route as well.
Fundraising supports cancer research and awareness
All registration proceeds, which included a race number and commemorative T-shirt for all participants, went towards the AECC to support cancer research. The organisation has made the annual march an opportunity not only to raise money, but also to demonstrate the support available to people living with cancer, as well as their loved ones.
Alongside the walk, organisers arranged activities to animate the gathering and information points to help raise awareness about cancer and the work carried out by the association. There was also a prize draw, with participants able to enter using their registration numbers. The prizes offered an additional incentive for people to get involved while highlighting the contribution of local supporters.
Previous marches demonstrate strong community backing
The sixth edition continued a tradition that has attracted strong community support in previous years. The 2025 march saw hundreds taking part and thousands of euros raised for cancer research and awareness. That previous success demonstrated the enthusiasm for the initiative and the willingness of residents to support a cause affecting people across the Marina Alta and beyond.
Through the annual walk, Javea’s AECC branch continues to combine fundraising with public awareness, encouraging the community to stand together in support of neighbours and families living with cancer diagnoses.
