Fancy dress and face paints at the ready as Mijas Town Hall has organised three free Halloween celebrations for Saturday, October 31, spreading spooky entertainment across Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas and La Cala de Mijas. Families can dig out their creepiest costumes and enjoy parades, storytelling, magic shows, DJ entertainment and survival games – plus a haunted house for anyone brave enough.
A different theme in each area
Mijas Pueblo will be a “Alice in Nightmare Land” vibe with a mysterious, fantasy-inspired atmosphere in Plaza Virgen de la Peña from 4pm until 10pm.
Las Lagunas will transform Cortijo Don Elias and the fairground into “Scary Stories” running from 6pm until midnight. La Cala de Mijas will host “The Enchanted Night” – at Parque La Butibamba from 5pm to 11pm.
What’s on and when
Themed costumed street parades will set off at 7pm and 10pm in all three locations. Storytelling, magic shows, DJ and MC entertainment and survival games will fill the hours between them.
Mijas Pueblo, Plaza Virgen de la Peña: Quiet Hour from 4pm to 5pm; storytelling at 5pm; magic at 6pm; parade at 7pm; DJ and MC entertainment from 7pm to 8pm; survival game from 8pm to 9pm; further DJ entertainment until 10pm; final parade at 10pm.
La Cala, Parque La Butibamba: Quiet Hour from 5pm to 6pm; DJ and MC entertainment from 6pm to 7pm; parade at 7pm; storytelling from 7pm to 8pm; magic from 8pm to 9pm; survival game from 9pm to 10pm; final parade at 10pm; DJ entertainment until 11pm.
Las Lagunas, Cortijo Don Elias and fairground: Quiet Hour from 6pm to 7pm; parade at 7pm; DJ and MC entertainment from 7pm to 8pm; storytelling from 8pm to 9pm; magic from 9pm to 10pm; final parade at 10pm; DJ entertainment until 11pm; survival game from 11pm to midnight.
Each celebration begins with a “Quiet Hour” designed for people with sensory hypersensitivity. Reduced noise and stimulation during this opening period should make the events more comfortable for children and adults who find crowds, loud music or flashing lights overwhelming.
Dare you enter the haunted house?
Las Lagunas brings the evening’s biggest fright: Cortijo Don Elias will host the traditional haunted house, open continuously from 5pm to 11pm. Put on your brave face for a walk full of scares and surprises. This one is best suited to older children, teenagers and adults rather than very young visitors.
Plan your spooky night out
So whether you choose a witch’s hat, a skeleton suit or something gloriously homemade. With free entry, three separate venues and entertainment running until midnight in Las Lagunas, there is something creepy across every corner of Mijas this Halloween.
