San Pedro del Pinatar has joined the Spanish Association Against Cancer, or AECC, in its latest awareness campaign, bringing a message of solidarity, prevention and care for neighbours affected by the disease to the local community. The town took part in the AECC’s ‘Nos lo tomamos a pecho’ campaign, which raises awareness of cancer and highlights the importance of research and patient-centred care.

During the morning, members of the association’s local committee set up a stall at the town’s weekly market, where they spoke to visitors about cancer prevention and sold their wares to raise funds for this important cause. The initiative gave residents and visitors an opportunity to learn more about the association’s work, ask questions and show their support for friends and neighbours affected by cancer.
Local officials call for compassionate care and more research
Following the market activities, local AECC president María José de la Orden read a manifesto in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, calling for a more humane and comprehensive approach to cancer care, alongside greater investment in research. Her inspiring message was about supporting people throughout their cancer journey and recognising that care extends beyond medical treatment alone.
The campaign also sought to encourage wider public involvement in the fight against cancer, reinforcing the role communities can play in supporting those affected by the disease. San Pedro del Pinatar mayor Pedro Javier Sánchez attended the initiative and thanked the association for its daily work in the municipality.
He recognised the efforts made by the local AECC committee to involve residents and encourage collective participation in cancer awareness and support initiatives. The event formed part of the association’s work to promote prevention, provide support to people affected by cancer and advocate for progress in research and treatment.
Supporting cancer patients and their families in the Region of Murcia
Through its presence at the weekly market and the workshop, San Pedro del Pinatar added its voice to the campaign, highlighting the importance of solidarity, accessible care and continued efforts to improve the lives of people living with cancer in the town and throughout the Region of Murcia.
