Residents in Coin are being invited to come together to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country at a special Remembrance Day ceremony on Wednesday, November 11.
Organised by the Coin Branch of the Royal British Legion, the annual Service of Remembrance will take place at Coin Cemetery Chapel, beginning at 11.30am.
The ceremony continues a local tradition, with a previous Remembrance service at Coin Cemetery Chapel also bringing the community together to honour those who served.
The service will coincide with the famous chimes of Big Ben in London, providing a poignant moment of remembrance for those who cannot be in the UK to mark the occasion. It will offer families, veterans and members of the community an opportunity to reflect on the individual lives behind the sacrifices remembered each November.
Attendees will also observe the traditional two minutes’ silence, accompanied by the Last Post and Reveille, before wreaths are laid in tribute to all branches of the Armed Forces. The Royal British Legion’s traditional Act of Remembrance explains the significance of these familiar elements.
The ceremony will be attended by the Mayor of Coin and town councillors, representatives of the Guardia Civil and members of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch.
Music will be provided by Tapas Choir, adding to what promises to be a moving occasion for the British and Spanish communities.
Everyone is welcome
Although Remembrance Day has particular significance for British residents living overseas, the ceremony is an opportunity for the wider community to stand together and pay their respects.
For many, the poppy and the two minutes’ silence represent far more than a yearly tradition. They are a chance to remember those who never returned home, those who served and those whose families carried the cost of their sacrifice.
As Remembrance Day celebrations across Spain show, these gatherings continue to bring British residents and their Spanish neighbours together. All members of the public are warmly invited to attend and take part.
Anyone wishing to have a name included in the bell ceremony, or seeking further information, should contact Coin Branch chairman Mrs J Taylor on 607 847 141.
