20 Almeria establishments face fines for allowing smoking

THE Consumer Organization Facua has reported that 20 establishments in Almeria have been reported to the authorities for failing to abide by the new laws on smoking. The association has already sent one series of complaints in January which amounted to almost 1,000 throughout Spain in the first 48 hours after the law came into effect.

Now it will be sending the second block of complaints registered between January 4 and 19.

The association hopes that by the time the regional health authorities send inspectors, the law will have been enforced in the reported establishments.

In 17 cases in Almeria, catering establishments were totally failing to enforce the complete ban on tobacco consumption within closed public spaces. The other complaints were from a place of work, a health centre and a shop.
