THE Valencian based supermarket chain, Vidal, has announced that due to the downturn in its profits, it will be cutting a third of its workforce and some 150 workers will be made redundant.
The family firm recently announced a downturn of 70% in its turnover in recent years and it has already sold 39 of its 55 supermarkets (Consum and Mas y Mas ). The chain now stands at 16 supermarkets.
One local casualty will be the La Nucia Vidal store, with the loss of 19 jobs, and adding to the already high unemployment in the area.
