A DUTCH man was arrested in Benidorm as he attempted to flee the country. He had allegedly organized a drug cargo to be transported by yacht in the Caribbean.
A total of 1,127 tons of cocaine was seized after the yacht was intercepted off the island of St Martin by the French Customs Authority. The yacht had set sail from Isla Blanquilla on June 30 and there is evidence that the detainee was on Isla Margarita last month.
The yacht’s two German crew members and another member of the ‘organization’ who was located on St Martin were taken into custody. Three top range vehicles and €61,000 in cash was seized during the search of three properties that the Dutch national resident in Spain owns on the Spanish coast.
Officers in Spain and Germany’s National Police were involved in the operation together with the French Customs and Interpol.
