Men arrested over Benidorm hit and run

TWO men aged under 30 were arrested Local Police in Benidorm, when they tried to flee a hit and run incident that resulted in a couple being injured.

The accident occurred around 7.30 in the morning, a time when many of the late bars and nightclubs are emptying out.

The two men have been charged with traffic offences, but the charges might change depending on the recovery of the two victims, who at the time of writing were in the Marina Baixa hospital at La Vila.

Drunk fuelled incidents in this part of Benidorm are all too frequent an occurrence, especially in the summer, and particularly at the time of the morning when the clubs empty out.

Though not reported in the press, two weeks ago a young man was attacked outside one of the main discos; his body – he appeared to be dead – was ignored by the exiting crowds, and the solitary policeman who was in attendance could do no more than divert traffic around the body.

He was not the victim of a hit and run, but of an attack by one or more others, armed with rods or bats. Last Sunday, the writer also witnessed another victim of an attack in the area, where a young man was covered in blood and staggering, seemingly having been hit some object.
