‘Drunk driver’ flees on foot leaving passenger for dead in Cartagena

AN Ecuadorian driver fled on foot, leaving his dead passenger inside the car, after colliding with a truck in Cartagena. He was located by a local police patrol near the service station on the road to Torreciega with minor injuries.

He tested positive for exceeding the alcohol blood level limit. The 29-year-old has been sent to Sangonera Prison on reckless homicide charges. The deceased was a 24-year-old Paraguayan woman who shared an apartment with other South Americans.

She died on the spot from injuries sustained in the collision, according to Emergency Services.

She leaves behind her eight-year-old son who is currently in Paraguay with his grandparents, although up until recently had lived with his mother.

The accused and deceased where not related.

The accident took place when the Audi A4 was travelling above the speed limit on Avenida Bruselas in the Industrial Estate and collided head-on with the back of a heavy truck parked in from of the Blaya Gallego furniture store.

Police said there were no signs of braking on the pavement, investigations found; evidence that the driver did not even have time to react when he lost control of the vehicle.
