WORLD CLASS: Deva Premal and Miten.
FRIDAY night’s concert by international musicians Deva Premal and Miten at the Trui Teatre turned into a ‘happening’ when the audience were invited onto the stage to sing with them.
The musicians who are famous internationally for their blend of classical and contemporary music have been joined by flautist Manose, and keyboard player Maneesh de Moor for their 2012 world tour.
Their compositions are often used for meditation and yoga practices. Around 700 people attended the concert on Friday evening which was jointly organised by Chetana Annette from Bodhana, a massage and wellness business based in Portals and Vicki McLeod from Phoenix Media Mallorca who specialise in unique events. ‘It started off as a normal performance, the first half was of them performing their well known songs, it was beautiful,’ said David, one of the audience members.
‘During the second half of the evening Miten was performing a song and suddenly said, would all the men in the audience like to come up onstage to sing for the ladies, and so we got up and joined him!
Then he invited the women to join us, and so they did. It was amazing. We spent the rest of the evening sitting on the stage singing together.’
Another audience member, Judy, described the evening as ‘I’m overflowing with superlatives like superb, magical, delightful! But words can’t really do it justice as it was more than a concert, it was a happening, on so many levels – from light hearted & humorous to deeply profound and soul satisfying!’
The musicians will now spend a few days on holiday here in Mallorca before continuing their world tour.
