President’s night provides €2,500 boost to charity

PRIZE DRAW: Lions President Bryan Coventry,  Amanda Martinez, wife of Cudeca Deputy Chief Executive Rafael Olalla Martinez (centre) and one of the raffle prize winners.

LA CALA LIONS annual President’s Cabaret Night – held in fond memory of Lion Frank Bowles – at Mijas Playa restaurant, La Cala was a huge success. More than 90 guests enjoyed cava and canapés on the terrace followed by an international menu and cabaret from a number of artistes including Arran Harding, David Mairs, Peter Brooks and Pauline Hulme.

A raffle and auction, including an impressive donation from Blevins Franks Financial Management, raised in excess of €2,500 which will be used to purchase much-needed equipment for Cudeca’s hospice centre at Benalmadena.

In the words of Lions president, Bryan Coventry  “we were keen to mark the passing of Frank Bowles, a wonderful Lion, in a memorable way and to raise sufficient funds to make a meaningful contribution to the work of Cudeca who offered their unique brand of caring when it was most needed.

“Despite the challenging times in which we live the support we have received in achieving that objective has been deeply gratifying.”

The Lions next flagship event will be their annual ‘Spirit of Christmas Fayre’ at the Tamisa Golf Hotel on December 8 in support of the Butterfly Childrens Charity.
