ALL SET: Benidorm hotels expect a good October.
TEMPERATURES are going up in Bernidorm and so is tourism. Hoteliers are expecting high occupancy rates in October thanks to good weather and Bank Holidays. last week, the Day of Valencia Community on Tuesday and the Day of the Virgin Pilar Friday (October 12), were sure to attract visitors.
Highest temperatures are around 30º C and the lowest will be around 19 or 20º C the whole week. Last year, occupancy in October was comparable to August with almost 94 per cent.
In 2012, hoteliers hope for a similar figure after occupancy rate in August was only 88.5 per cent. “We are full,” said the president of hotel association Hosbec, Antonio Mayor, “the weather helps and people here call their relatives to come and join them.”
Most hotels are fully booked for both Bank Holidays, some of them even for the whole week and the fortnight. “The first fortnight of October is always good,” said Mayor. Although “October prices are very competitive”, which makes for lower benefits, it is a clear lure for markets in times of crisis, especially for the Spanish market, which has been the lowest during the whole season.
