Children hurt in gate fall

A YOUNG girl is recovering in hospital following an operation to repair her fractured femur after a wrought iron gate fell on her.

The 10 year-old was playing with other children in the Severo Ochoa park in Orihuela when the accident happened. As they swung on the park´s gate it snapped off and fell on to the youngsters. Several escaped with bruises but Marcia Carceles suffered from a shattered femur bone. Her father has criticised the state of the gate and asked why no one had noticed that is was completely rusting away, particularly as it was locked at night and opened every day.
