Town hall of Calpe ‘victim of €11.5m bin swindle’

CALPE town hall was allegedly swindled out of €11.5 million by Colsur. The rubbish collection company is headed by Angel Fenoll, currently implicated in the ongoing Brugal corruption case.

Colsur obtained €11.1 million by charging the council for thousands of tons of rubbish that were never collected, concluded an investigation by Valencia’s Universidad Catolica.

Amongst other money-making dodges, the company is also accused of defrauding the town hall by overcharging IVA valued-added tax.

The town hall is now demanding €4 million from Colsur. The remainder will be written-off against the council’s accumulated debt with the company, which it has not paid since 2009.

Ex-mayor Javier Morato, former councillor Juan Rosello and the latter’s brother-in-law are currently under investigation for the alleged Colsur fraud by a Denia court.
