More bad news for Mojacar

MOJACAR mayor Rosa Maria Cano plans to increase the revenue from IBI (property tax) in order to balance the municipality’s books. “Since I took control in 2007 I have raised the number of properties liable for tax from 10,334 to 14,016” she stated. “In six years I have been able to generate 4,000 more bills.

We created a strong Cadastre unit because there were too many people who were not contributing to the property tax, as their properties were not registered.”

Opposition spokesman Manuel Zamora (PSOE) commented: “The citizens of Mojacar cannot afford tax increases (such as IBI) which are stifling the economy.  The economic policy being implemented by the mayor is a drag on the local economy.

“We are faced with a ruler who lacks the capacity to manage the municipality and is taking us towards absolute ruin.”  Zamora’s claim that under her stewardship Mojacar’s debt has risen sharply was denied by the mayor
