The largest video game collection in the world has been sold, for a whopping €550,000.
The Guinness Book of World Records certified former owner Mr Thomasson’s collection at 10,607 games in 2012, the world’s largest.
While approximately a quarter of the collection is factory sealed, €550,000 for the entire 11,000 game collection works out to around €50 per game, which is surprisingly close to the retail price for most new titles.
The unnamed bidder, known only as peeps_10091970, will now take ownership of one of the largest video game libraries in private ownership. Including complete US sets of games for 22 consoles which include some rare pieces of hardware like Japan exclusives, female oriented Casio Loopy, the Tapewave Zodiac and NUON.
Mr Thomasson is certain this isn’t the end of his game collecting, adding: “I’ve sold my collection many times in the past and still managed to capture Guinness’s attention, it is entirely possible that I may again.”
