500+ trains cancelled by RENFE

Today and tomorrow RENFE and ADIF have been forced to cancel more than 500 trains due to strikes by the CCOO, SF and CGT. These three large trade unions have announced that strikes will take place between 01.00 today and 23.00 tomorrow. The strikes are prompted by a lack of personnel say the organisers of the strike.

The affected trains are large or medium distance journeys with 77% of long distance trains cancelled and 65% of the total of medium distance trains. Cercanias lines are significantly better but only 75% of services are expected to arrive on time.

RENFE have responded to this by offering a complete refund to travellers who do not wish to travel on these two days of strike or affected trains without a cancellation fee.

However if you still wish to travel, the train company have also given another option to change your ticket for another running service on the same day, as long as it is on the same conditions as the original. In the case that the new ticket is of a lower class, RENFE have decided to reimburse the difference and if lucky, a higher class of ticket will not incur any charge. This does not include overnight journeys where tickets include a sleeper.
